Week 9 NFL Recap

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons offense just continues to light it up. They accounted for 461 yards on offense and scored 43 points. Matt Ryan completed 25/34 for 344 yards and 4 touchdowns. Julio Jones caught 8 passes for 111 yards and 1 touchdown. The Bucs also put up big numbers in the passing game. Jameis Winston threw for 3 touchdowns and gained 261 yards. His big target, Mike Evans, caught 11 passes for 150 yards and 2 scores. The Bucs were in the game at halftime, but they were held scoreless in the 3rd as the Falcons broke away. Falcons 43 Bucs 28.

Top performer: QB, Matt Ryan. 25/34, 344 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs Baltimore Ravens

The Steelers offense struggled as Big Ben returned from injury. The were held scoreless until the 4th quarter and only gained 277 yards of total offense. The Ravens offense wasn’t good either, gaining 274 yards. Pittsburgh made it interesting in the 4th scoring 14 points and coming within one touchdown. The last chance they had, they lost on a weird onside kick try. Ravens 21 Steelers 14.

Top performer: Ravens defense. 14 points allowed, 274 yards allowed.

Dallas Cowboys vs Cleveland Browns

Dallas completely destroyed Cleveland, which wasn’t very shocking. Dak Prescott was an efficient 21/27 for 247 yards and 3 touchdowns. Zeke Elliot ran for 92 yards and 2 touchdowns. Dallas ran for 168 yards as a team. Dallas 35 Browns 10.

was Jacksonville Jaguars vs Kansas City Chiefs

It’s not often that you win a game if you only gain 231 yards and the other team gains 449. The Chiefs couldn’t get much going on offense but their defense was great. They caused 4 turnovers from Jacksonville, 1 interception and 3 fumbles. They also held the Jags to one touchdown each half. The game was close, but the Chiefs pulled it out after the Jags made it 19-14 with 4:10 left in the 4th. Chiefs 19 Jags 15.

Top performer: Chiefs defense. 14 points allowed, 3 forced fumbles and 1 interception.

Miami Dolphins vs New York Jets

Both teams had trouble throwing the ball. Ryan Fitzpatrick 17/28 for 193 yards, 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions. Ryan Tannehill was 17/18 for 149 yards and 1 touchdown. Though they didn’t throw well, both squads ran the ball quite effectively. Miami ran for 137 yards (111 from Jay Ajayi) and New York ran for 140 (90 from Matt Forte). It was a close game throughout. The Jets had a 23-20 lead with 5:42 left. On the kickoff after they scored to take the lead, Kenyan Drake of the Dolphins returned a kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown. That would be the game winner. Dolphins 27 Jets 23.

Top performer: RB, Jay Ajayi. 24 rushes, 111 yards and 1 touchdown.

New York Giants vs Philadelphia Eagles

The Giants started out on fire! On the first two Eagles drives they caught interceptions and they used those turnovers to score 2 touchdowns. Eli Manning had a good game, throwing for 4 touchdowns while completing 22 of 36 passes for 257 yards. Manning did throw 2 interceptions during the game. The Eagles kept the game close and had a chance to win the game in the 4th. Carson Wentz got them into the redzone but they couldn’t get a touchdown. Giants 28 Eagles 23.

Top performer: QB, Eli Manning. 22/36, 257 yards and 4 touchdowns

Detroit Lions vs Minnesota Vikings

This game was the definition of back and fourth. No team scored twice in a row in regulation. Both QBs played well enough to win. Matt Stafford went 23/36 for 219 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception. Sam Bradford went 31/40 for 273 yards and 1 score. Minnesota took a 3 point lead with 23 seconds left on a 1 yard TD run from Rhett Ellison. The Lions would drive down the field and tie the game with no time left on the clock. In OT the Lions got the ball and scored on a pass from Stafford to Golden State. Lions 22 Vikings 16.

Top performer: QB, Matthew Stafford. 23/36, 219 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception.

Carolina Panthers vs Los Angeles Rams

There was only two touchdowns combined in this game. One from each QB. Cam Newton went 20/32 for 225 yards and 1 touchdown. Case Keenum went 27/46 for 296 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. The Rams were held scoreless until the 4th quarter. They scored a touchdown with 34 seconds left but couldn’t get the ball back. Panthers 13 Rams 10.

Top performer: QB, Cam Newton. 20/32, 225 yards and 1 touchdown.

San Francisco 49ers vs New Orleans Saints

First half SHOOTOUT! Both teams combined for 51 points in the first half. The Saints offense looked better than ever. They ran for 248 yards as a team, 158 yards from Mark Ingram and 87 yards from Tim Hightower. Drew Brees was excellent as usual, throwing for 323 yards and 3 touchdowns. Colin Kaepernick had a great game, throwing for 398 yards and 2 touchdowns. The 49ers couldn’t get in the endzone in the second half, only scoring 3 points. Saints 41 49ers 23.

Top performer: QB, Drew Brees. 28/39, 323 yards and 3 touchdowns.

San Diego Chargers vs Tennessee Titans

This was the highest scoring game of the season. Teams combined for 78 points. This game was filled with big point swings. Chargers started off 16-0, Titans would respond by going on a 21-3 run to take the lead. Titans QB, Marcus Mariota had an oddly good, but bad game. He was 27/34 for 313 yards, 3 passing touchdowns, and 1 rushing touchdown. But he had 3 turnovers, 2 interceptions (1 returned for a touchdown) and 1 fumble (which was returned for a touchdown as well). Melvin Gordon went OFF! He rushed for 196 yards and 1 touchdown on 31 carries. He also caught 4 passes for 65 yards. The Titans made the score 43-35 with 2:45 left in the 4th but the Chargers would hold on. Chargers 43 Titans 35.

Top performer: RB, Melvin Gordon. 32 rushes, 196 yards, 4 receptions, 65 yards, and 1 rushing touchdown.

Indianapolis Colts vs Green Bay Packers

 Indy came out the gate on fire, as Jordan Todman returned a kick 99 yards to the house. They were in control the entire first half, going into the 3rd quarter up 24-10. Andrew Luck had a decent game throwing for 281 yards, 1 touchdown but he did throw 2 interceptions. The Packers made a comeback attempt in the 4th, scoring 14 unanswered points to cut the lead to 31-26. Indy would hold on, though. Indy 31 Green Bay 26.

Top performer: RB, Frank Gore. 19 rushes for 60 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Denver Broncos vs Oakland Raiders

Oakland dominated this game in a way we haven’t seen from them very much this season. They literally ran all over the Denver Broncos. Latavius Murray had 20 carries for 114 yards and 3 touchdowns. As a team the Raiders ran for 218 yards. All of their touchdowns were via the ground. Meanwhile, the Broncos only ran for 33 yards the entire game. Denver scored a touchdown late to make it seem closer than it actually was. Oakland 30 Denver 20.

Top performer: RB, Latavius Murray. 20 rushes, 114 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Buffalo Bills vs Seattle Seahawks

In the first quarter the Bills were clicking, scoring 14 points. In the second quarter the Seahawks were clicking, scoring 21 points. It was a fairly high scoring game between these two which wasn’t expected. Both QBs played very well. Tyrod Taylor completed 27 of 38 passes for 289 yards and a score. Russell Wilson completed 20/26 passes for 282 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jimmy Graham was awesome, he caught 8 passes for 103 yards and 2 touchdowns. Both touchdowns grabs were one-handed! Buffalo had a chance late but turned the ball over on downs. Seattle 31 Buffalo 25
