NFL Week 6 Recap

San Diego Chargers vs Denver Broncos

Don’t let the Charges 21 points fool you. It wasn’t 2 touchdowns. Both teams combined for only 2 touchdowns the entire game, 1 on the first drive, and 1 in the 4th quarter. Philip Rivers had a great first drive and a overall decent game. Rivers threw for 178 yards and 1 touchdown. Denver gave SD their weekly 4th quarter scare, scoring 10 in the 4th. But the Chargers would hold own to win. SD 21 Denver 13.

Top performer: LB, Jatavis Brown. 14 tackles, 1 sack, 1 tackle for loss, and 1 forced fumble.

 Washington Redskins vs Philadelphia Eagles

The Redskins defense came to play this week against their division rival. The Eagles first 5 offensive possessions of the game were punts, but they managed to score 14 points. The scored on a punt return by Wendell Smallwood and a pick 6 by Malcolm Jenkins. The Skins offense was clicking in the first half, scoring 21 points. QB Kirk Cousins threw for 263 yards, 2 touchdowns. Matt Jones ran wild, gaining 135 yards on only 16 carries, he also ran in a touchdown. Skins 27 Eagles 20.

Top performer: RB, Matt Jones. 16 carries, 135 yards and 1 touchdown.

Los Angeles Rams vs Detroit Lions

The QBs in this game absolutely lit it up. Case Keenum went 27/32 for 321 yards and 3 touchdowns. Matt Stafford went 23/31 for 270 yards and 4 touchdowns. Matt Prater kicked a field goal giving the Lions the lead with 1:29 left. Next possession Keenum throws a INT ending the game. Lions 31 Rams 28.

Top performer: QB, Matthew Stafford. 23/31, 270 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Baltimore Ravens vs New York Giants

Another game in which both QBs were both very good. Although he didn’t throw for a touchdown, Joe Flacco threw for 307 yards and didn’t turn the ball over. Eli Manning had 403 yards, 3 touchdowns, but he threw 2 interceptions. Odell Beckham Jr went crazy, catching 8 passes for 222 yards and 2 touchdowns. He scored the game winning 66 touchdown with 1:24 left in the game. Giants 27 Ravens 23.

Top performer: WR, Odell Beckham Jr. 8 receptions, 222 yards, and 2 touchdowns.

New England Patriots vs Cincinnati Bengals

Another fantastic game Tom Brady. Brady torched the Bengals secondary, completing 29/35 passes for 376 yards and 3 touchdowns. 2 of those touchdowns to running back, James White. Gronk had a great day as well, 7 receptions,  162 yards and 1 touchdown. Andy Dalton had a nice game, throwing for 254 yards, 1 passing touchdown, and 1 running touchdown. Cincy just couldn’t get enough offense going to keep up with Brady and company. Pats 35 Bengals  17

Top performer: QB, Tom Brady. 29/35, 376 yards, and 3 touchdowns.

Miami Dolphins vs Pittsburgh Steelers

Who saw this one coming? Not many I would guess. Miami pretty much shut down the Steelers potent offense. Aside from a Darius Heyward-Bey 60 yard run in the 1st quarter, the Steelers only had 69 yards rushing. The Dolphins defense also help Big Ben to 189 yards passing and forced him into 2 turnovers. It was the Jay Ajayi show on offense for Miami. Ajayi ran the ball 25 times for 204 yards and 2 touchdowns. Miami 30 Pittsburgh 15.

Top performer: RB, Jay Ajayi. 25 carries, 204 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Buffalo Bills vs San Francisco 49ers

The Bills ran all over the 49ers. They gained 312 yards on the ground averaging 7.1 yards per carry. 140 of those game from LeSean McCoy. McCoy also added 3 touchdowns to his 140 yard performance. QB, Tyrod Taylor played a nice game, throwing 2 touchdowns and gaining 179 yards. Bills 45 49ers 16.

Top performer: RB, LeSean McCoy. 19 carries, 140 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Cleveland Browns vs Tennessee Titans

The young QBs in this game played very well. Cody Kessler went 26/41 for 336 yards and 2 scores. Both of those touchdowns went to Terrelle Pryor, who had a good game as well. Pryor caught 9 passes for 75 yards and those 2 scores. Marcus Mariota went 17/24 for 284 yards and 3 touchdowns. Mariota also added 64 yards on the ground. Cleveland scored 2 late touchdowns to make the game closer, but they would fall short. Titans 28 Browns 26.

Top performer: QB, Marcus Mariota. 17/24, 284 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 64 rushing yards.

New Orleans Saints vs Carolina Panthers

The Panthers defense continues to struggle. Albeit against Drew Brees, they gave up 41 points and 523 yards of total offense. Brees was amazing, throwing for 465 yards and 4 touchdowns. WR, Brandin Cooks caught 7 passes for 173 yards and 1 touchdown. The Panthers made a furious comeback after being down 21. They tied the game in the 4th quarter with 2:58 left. But Brees took his squad down the field for the game winning field goal. Saints 41 Panthers 38

Top performer: QB, Drew Brees. 34/49, 465 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Chicago Bears vs Jacksonville Jaguars

The Bears were up 13-0 going into the 4th quarter. Their defense held the Jaguars scoreless, but the problem was they couldn’t add on to that lead. Brian Hoyer was good, 30/49 and 302 yards. The Jags offense finally clicked in the 4th, Blake Bortles threw a 51 yard 51 yard pass to Arrelious Benn with 2:49 left. That score was the game winner. Jags 17 Bears 16.

Top performer: QB, Blake Bortles. 20/33, 271 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 INT.

Kansas City Chief vs Oakland Raiders

After giving up 10 points in the first half, the Chiefs clamped down on Oakland in the second half. They held that explosive Raiders offense to 0 points. They also ran the ball very effectively. Jamaal Charles scored his first touchdown of the season. He had 9 carries for 33 yards. Spencer Ware ran for 124 yards and a score on 24 carries. Chiefs 26 Raiders 10.

Top performer: RB, Spencer Ware. 24 carries, 124 yards and 1 touchdown.

Atlanta Falcons vs Seattle Seahawks

Seattle had the game under control in the first half. They held Atlanta to 3 points and forced a turnover. But the 3rd quarter was a different story. The Falcons offense went crazy, scoring 21 points in the quarter. Matt Ryan threw 3 touchdowns in the quarter. Ryan had an good game overall, throwing for those 3 scores and 335 yards. Heading into the 4th Atlanta was up 24 to 17. In the 4th Seattle’s defense stepped up and held the Falcons scoreless. Seattle scored 9 including the game winning field goal with 1:57 left. Seahawks 26 Falcons 24.

Top performer: RB, Christine Michael. 18 carries, 64 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Dallas Cowboys vs Green Bay Packers

AGAIN, the Cowboys star rookies played great. Dak Prescott threw for 247 yards and 3 scores. Ezekiel Elliot had 28 carries and gained 157 yards. The Dallas defense held Aaron Rodgers and company to NO touchdowns until the 4th quarter in Green Bay! Rodgers played well but couldn’t get touchdowns. He had 294 yards and 1 touchdown while completing 31 of 42 passes. Dallas 30 Green Bay 16.

Top performer: QB, Dak Prescott. 18.27, 247 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Indianapolis Colts vs Houston Texans

The Colts took a page out of the San Diego Chargers playbook this week by giving up a 14 point lead in the 4th quarter. They were up 23-9 with about 7 minutes left. The Texans would then score on their next two possessions to tie the game and send it into overtime. In OT the Colts couldn’t get anything going on their one drive. Houston would capitalize and hit a field goal to win the game. Texans 26 Colts 23.

Top performer: RB, Lamar Miller. 24 carries, 149 yards, 2 rushing touchdown, 1 receiving touchdown.

New York Jets vs Arizona Cardinals

It was the David Johnson show on Monday Night Football. Johnson ran for 111 yards on 22 carries, scored 3 touchdowns and averaged 5 yards per carry. Credit the Cardinals defense as well, they only gave up 3 points and forced 2 turnovers in the game. Cardinals QB, Carson Palmer played well, throwing for 213 yards and a score.

Top performer: RB, David Johnson. 22 rushes, 111 yards and 3 touchdowns.
