NFL recap week 5

San Francisco 49ers vs Arizona Cardinals

San Francisco had the game tied at 7 at halftime and then it just went south for them. Arizona would score 26 points in the second half. Drew Stanton threw 2 touchdowns, both to Larry Fitzgerald. David Johnson had a HUGE game, running for 157 yards and 2 touchdowns. Cardinals 33 49ers 21.

Top performer: RB, David Johnson. 27 carries, 157 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Minnesota Vikings vs Houston Texans

The Vikings just keep on rolling. QB, Sam Bradford went 22/30 for 271 yards and 2 touchdowns. Minnesota still ran the ball well again without Adrian Peterson, gaining 96 yards as a team. The Texans offense could get nothing going all game long. Brock Osweiler went 19/42 and threw an interception. They also only gained 59 yards on the ground. Vikings 31, Texans 13.

Top performer: Vikings defense. 13 points allowed, 214 yards allowed, 1 interception and 4 sacks.

Washington Redskins vs Baltimore Ravens

Credit both defenses in this match up for keeping it a relatively low scoring game. Both QBs played well enough to win. Kirk Cousins went 29/41 for 260 yards but only one touchdown. Joe Flacco went 30/46 for only 210 yards and 1 touchdown. The Redskins defense shut out the Ravens in the second half to get the victory. Redskins 16 Ravens 10

Top performer: Redskins defense. 10 points allowed, shut out Baltimore in second half.

New England Patriots vs Cleveland Brown

Tom Brady is back guys, and I mean he is BACK. Brady threw for 406 yards , 3 touchdowns and completed 28 of his 40 passes. All 3 of his TD passes went to TE Martellus Bennett. He also connected with Gronk 5 times for 109 yards. The Browns… I have nothing to say. They went through 3 QBs in this game and it’s just not looking good for them.

Top performer: QB, Tom Brady. 28/40, 406 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Philadelphia Eagles vs Detroit Lions

The Lions started off fast taking a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. The Eagles would respond in the second quarter by scoring 10 points but were down 11 at half time. Both QBs played pretty well. Matthew Stafford threw 3 touchdowns, 2 of them going to RB Theo Riddick. Carson Wentz went 25/33 for 238 yards and 2 touchdowns. Down 24-23 with 1:28 left the Eagles got the ball back with a chance to take the lead. First play of that possession Carson Wentz threw his first career interception, pretty much ending the game. Lions 24 Eagles 23.

Top performer: QB, Matthew Stafford. 19/25, 180 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Chicago Bears vs Indianapolis Colts

Brian Hoyer just won the job over Jay Cutler in this game. Hoyer played great, throwing for 397 yards, 2 touchdowns and completed 33 of 43 passes. Andrew Luck played just as good. Luck went 28/39 for 322 yards and 2 touchdowns. We also had WRs on both sides play great as well. Ty Hilton caught 10 passes for 171 yards and 1 touchdown. Cameron Meredith caught 9 passes for 130 yards and 1 touchdown. Down 23-19 with 3 minutes left in the 4th Andrew Luck hit Ty Hilton for a 35 yard touchdown to go ahead 26-23. They would hold on to the lead and win. Colts 29 Bears 23.

Top performer: QB, Andrew Luck. 28/39, 322 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Tennessee Titans vs Miami Dolphins

Tennessee pretty much ran the Dolphins out the stadium. DeMarco Murray ran for 121 yards on 27 carries. As a team they ran for 235 yards and 1 touchdown! Marcus Mariota was very good through the air, throwing for 3 touchdowns. The Dolphins scored 14 points in the second quarter but only managed 3 points in the second half. QB Ryan Tannehill threw 2 interceptions and only gained 191 yards. Titans 30 Dolphins 17.

Top performer: QB, Marcus Mariota. 20/29, 163 yards and 3 touchdowns.

New York Jets vs Pittsburgh Steelers

Ryan Fitzpatrick didn’t throw an interception. That’s the only positive I can think of for the Jets from this game. Big Ben sliced their defense up all game long. He threw for 380 yards, 4 touchdowns and completed 34/47 passes. WR Sammie Coates had a huge game, catching 6 passes for 139 yards (23.2 yards per catch) and 2 touchdowns. Steelers 31 Jets 13.

Top performer: QB, Ben Roethlisberger. 34/47, 380 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Atlanta Falcons vs Denver Broncos

This was the most anticipated match up of the week, Atlanta’s high flying offense and Denver’s elite defense. Denver’s defense played well, holding ATL to only two touchdowns. But Denver’s offense could get nothing going. They didn’t score a touchdown until the 4th quarter. Matt Ryan had an okay game, throwing for 228 yards and 1 touchdown while completing 15 of 28 passes. Atlanta ran the ball very well, running for 122 yards as a team. RB, Devonta Freeman had 88 rushing yards and a a touchdown. RB, Tevin Coleman had 4 receptions 122 and 1 touchdown. Falcons 23 Broncos 16.

Top performer: RB, Tevin Coleman. 4 receptions for 122 yards and 1 touchdown.

Buffalo Bills vs Los Angeles Rams

The Bills and LeSean McCoy ran all over the rams. As a team the Bills averaged 7.1 yards a carry in the game. McCoy himself ran for 150 yards and averaged 8.3 yards a carry. Todd Gurley of the Rams had a 72 yards and a touchdown but he fumbled twice. Buffalo’s defense didn’t allow a touchdown in the second half. Buffalo 30 Rams 19.

Top performer: RB, LeSean McCoy. 18 carries for 150 yards.

Dallas Cowboys vs Cincinnati Bengals

Dallas completely dominated this game. Especially on defense, shutting the Bengals out until the 4th quarter. The Rookies for Dallas played phenomenal again. RB, Ezekiel Elliot ran for 134 yards and 2 touchdowns on 15 carries. QB, Dak Prescott was 18/24 for 227 yards and 2 touchdowns. Bengals QB, Andy Dalton threw 2 touchdowns in the 4th. Dalton threw for 269 yards while completing 29 of 41 passes. Cowboys 28 Bengals 14.

Top performer: RB, Ezekiel Elliot. 15 carries for 134 yards and 2 touchdowns.

San Diego Chargers vs Oakland Raiders

Most expected this to be a high scoring game, but the first half of the game was the opposite. Both teams combined for 19 points at half.  But the scoring picked up in the 3rd quarter, as both teams scored 2 touchdowns. Both QBs played very well. Derek Carr went 25/40 with 2 touchdowns. Philip Rivers threw 2 bonehead interceptions but he did throw for 359 yards and 4 touchdowns. With two minutes to go, the Chargers had a chance to tie the game at 34. But a botched catch from the holder Drew Kaser ended those hopes. Oakland 34 San Diego 31.

Top performer: QB, Derek Carr. 25/40, 317 yards and 2 touchdowns.

New York Giants vs Green Bay Packers

Eli Manning and Aaron Rodgers both played sub par in this one. Manning had 199 yards and 1 touchdown. Rodgers went 23/45 for 259 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. The difference in the two offenses was the running game. The Giants only ran for 43 yards while Green Bay ran for 147 yards. The Packers defense didn’t let the Giants score a touchdown until the 4th quarter. Green Bay 23 Giants 16.

Top performer:  WR, Randall Cobb. 9 receptions for 108 yards.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs Carolina Panthers

This game was one filled with miscues. The Panthers turned the ball over 4 times (2 fumbles and 2 interceptions) and missed a field goal. The Bucs didn’t turn the ball over but they also missed 2 field goals. Bucs QB Jameis Winston had a good game, he has 18/30 for 219 yards and a touchdown. Panthers QB Derek Anderson was 18/28 for 278 yards but didn’t throw a touchdown. The Bucs made a field goal when it counted most, hitting a 38 yard field goal with no time left to win the game. Bucs 17 Panthers 14.

Top performer: QB, Jameis Winston. 18/30, 219 yards and 1 touchdown.
