NFL Week 3 Recap

Houston Texans vs New England Patriots

Okay so let me get this straight, the Pats didn’t have their starting QB, backup QB, or their star TE and they won AGAIN? They completely man handled and embarrassed the Texans on Thursday. 3rd string QB Jacoby Brissett didn’t have to do much so his stat line won’t be great, but he did run for 48 yards and a touchdown. He did his job by not turning the ball over. The Texans were pretty much blanketed all game and could get nothing going at all. Pats 27 Texans 0.

Top performer: Entire Patriots Team.

Buffalo Bills vs Arizona Cardinals

Surprise game of the week for me. The Bills beat the Cardinals pretty handily. Carson Palmer threw 4 interceptions and was sacked 5 times. Buffalo literally ran all over Arizona. LeSean McCoy ran for 110 yards and 2 touchdowns. Tyrod Taylor also ran for 76 yards and a score. Buffalo 33 Arizona 18

Top performer: Buffalo defense. 5 Sacks, 4 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles, 1 recovered fumble.

Oakland Raiders vs Tennessee Titans

Marcus Mariota had a horrible game. He only threw for 214 yards, no touchdowns but threw 2 interceptions and also fumbled twice. The Titans ran for 181 yards as a team but couldn’t get into the end zone until the 3rd quarter. Credit the Oakland defense. Oakland didn’t play great offensively either but they did enough to win. QB Derek Carr threw a touchdown and one interception. Oakland 17 Tennessee 10.

Top performer: WR, Michael Crabtree. 8 receptions for 102 yards.

Minnesota Vikings vs Carolina Panthers

The Vikings are without they’re two best offensive players now. They still look like a contender. That Vikings defense caused Cam Newton to throw 3 interceptions and they sacked him EIGHT (8) times! Everson Griffen had 3 of those 8 sacks. Quarterback Sam Bradford threw a touchdown as the Vikings only offensive score. Vikings 22 Panthers 10

Top performer: DE, Everson Griffen. 3 sacks.

Miami Dolphins vs Cleveland Browns

The Browns started their 3rd different QB on the season, Cody Kessler. Kessler threw for 244 yards but he did fumble twice. Terrelle Pryor played QB, WR, and RB this game. Combined he gained 200 yards in the game. Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill played okay, throwing 3 touchdowns but he did have 2 interceptions. The game was sent into OT after Cleveland missed a field goal as time expired. The Dolphins would win in OT on a 11 yard run from Jay Ajayi. Miami 30 Cleveland 24.

Top performer: WR, Jarvis Landry. 7 receptions for 120 yards and 1 touchdown.

Denver Broncos vs Cincinnati Bengals

This was the official coming out party for Broncos QB Trevor Siemian. He carved the Bengals secondary up for 312 yards and 4 touchdowns. 15 of his 23 completed passes went to Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas. The Broncos defense shut down the Bengals passing game. Andy Dalton didn’t throw a touchdown and barely threw over 200 yards (206). Cincy ran the ball very well though, gaining 143 yards on the ground. Denver scored 13 in the 4th to finish the game. Denver 29 Cincy 17.

Top performer: QB, Trevor Siemian. 23/35, 312 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs Baltimore Ravens

The QB play in this game was well below average. Blake Bortles and Joe Flacco both had multiple interception games. Both teams played excellent defense. The Jags only gave up 283 yards of total offense and the Ravens only gave up 216. Justin Tucker gave the Ravens the lead with 1:02 in the 4th. The Ravens would hold on to win. Ravens 19 Jags 17.

Top performer: Baltimore defense. 17 points allowed, 3 interceptions, 216 yards given up.

Green Bay Packers vs Detroit Lions

Aaron Rodgers went completely ballistic in the first half. Throwing 4 touchdowns, 2 of them to Jordy Nelson. Nelson had 6 catches for 101 yards along with those 2 touchdowns. It was 31-10 at halftime in favor of Green Bay. Detroit would make a nice late surge, but it was a little to late. Green Bay 34 Detroit 27.

Top performer: QB, Aaron Rodgers. 15/24, 205 yards, and 4 touchdowns.

Washington Redskins vs New York Giants

Everybody was anticipating the Josh Norman vs Odell Beckham match up in this game. Beckham had 6 receptions on 9 targets for 107 yards when lined up against Norman. The Giants offense looked amazing in the first half. Scoring 21 points. The Skins defense clamped down in the second half, not allowing the Giants to score a single touchdown. The Skins took the lead 1:51 left by 2 on the leg of kicker Dustin Hopkins. Next possession Eli Manning would throw an interception that ended the game. Skins 29 Giants 27.
