Folks, it is that time once again. It’s the first PPV after the big brand split, and we finally get the Shield triple threat match we’ve all been clamoring for. We’ve got eight matches at the time this is being written, and guess what else? This time, you’re stuck with just me. So, before the anticipation kills you, let’s get into some predictions.
Becky Lynch vs. Natalya
Starting with a women’s match, we’ve got Becky Lynch and Natalya after Natalya turned on Becky at the Money In The Bank PPV last month. Personally, I think Natalya works better as a babyface, and I’m not sure how far she’ll go as a heel. Nonetheless, I’ll bet this rivalry will continue long after Sunday, but I’m going to pick Becky Lynch for the initial win. Becky Lynch could really use this opportunity to go over and hopefully, prolong this feud.
John Cena/Enzo & Cass vs. The Club
Now, we know that AJ Styles will be going to Smackdown while Gallows and Anderson will be going to Raw after this show. Keeping that in mind, I think Cena’s team will win for a few other reasons, too. We saw John Cena lose to AJ Styles at the last PPV, and most wrestling fans know how much of a rarity a loss for Cena is, especially at two PPVs in a row. Considering AJ went over against Cena at Money In The Bank, I think Cena’s team will win here whether or not Cena and Styles are involved in the decision. Also, in the chance of a DQ, I imagine it will be The Club that gets disqualified. Considering the immediate split of The Club, this is the result that would make the most sense.
Rusev (c) vs. Zack Ryder: United States Championship
I definitely have Rusev winning this one. In the draft, the United States title went to Raw, while the Intercontinental title went to Smackdown. With that said, Ryder is on Smackdown. I think that for now, the titles are going to stay right where they are.
The Miz (c) vs. Darren Young: Intercontinental Championship
Like the U.S tittle, I think the IC title will also stay on the brand it was drafted to. Darren Young has gotten a huge push from the “Make Darren Young Great Again” storyline and the addition of Bob Backlund. So, I’m sure there will be some shenanigans before The Miz retains. Miz may even get himself disqualified, which would give Young the win. The result I’m sticking with is that Maryse and Backlund will somehow distract Young so that Miz can pick up the win.
Charlotte and Dana Brooke vs. Sasha Banks and A Mystery Partner
So, before we pick a winner, who could the partner be? For me, there are two names that stick out most: Nikki Bella and Bayley. Neither Bayley nor Nikki Bella were drafted, which was probably done to keep the surprise more unpredictable. Between the two, Bayley is the choice that would probably make more sense. Given the history she has with Sasha Banks, it’s hard to bet against the two of them sharing the WWE ring. As for the winners, mystery competitors win nine times out of ten. I pick Sasha’s team.
Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens
I’m picking Zayn to win, only because Owens got the big win at Payback, and we all know how much WWE likes 50/50 booking.
The New Day vs. The Wyatt Family
It’s important to mention that the tag team titles aren’t on the line here. Again, it makes more sense for New Day to win because the Wyatt Family has also been split up, with Bray Wyatt and Erick Rowan going to Smackdown, while Braun Strowman goes to Raw. The New Day will also be on Raw, so having the Wyatts win wouldn’t make much sense. A win for the Wyatts would put them in contention for the tag team titles, which would be difficult to pull off with Wyatt and Rowan being the only two on a similar brand. I pick New Day.
Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns: WWE Championship
Finally, the moment we’ve all been waiting for! The Shield triple threat match! Who’s gonna win? Well, I can tell you who it won’t be: Roman Reigns. With his violation of the wellness policy, it seems unlikely that he would return to being champion as soon as his suspension is lifted. This past Monday Night Raw, we saw the championship match between Ambrose and Rollins end in controversy, with all four shoulders on the mat for the three count. I think that this match will end in similar fashion, with the split winners being Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose. This way, there will probably be a world champion on each brand. We might not know who the best Shield member is at the end of this match, but we can be darn sure of who it isn’t.
