This has been one of the hardest WWE PPV match cards to predict in a long time. In any case, this show has a bit of a Wrestlemania feel to it. We have so many big matches coming on Sunday, and we know we can’t wait to see what happens. So, without further ado, representing The Last Timeout, here are our WWE MITB 2016 predictions!
Baron Corbin vs. Dolph Ziggler
Nick: For the third PPV in a row, it looks like we’re going to have to sit through another Corbin vs. Ziggler pre-show match. The first time around, nobody saw Ziggler coming away with the win, and he could potentially do it again. He’s due for a big win, but Baron Corbin is still standing in his way. I still stand by my opinion that Corbin has loads of potential, and hopefully this is the match that ends this rivalry. In that case, I’m picking Baron Corbin for the win.
Andrew: I still don’t know why this match exists for the third time, when no one wants it, but either way, Baron Corbin is my pick. He is the upcoming star and I much rather him than Dolph, whose career is only on the way down. Baron Corbin will close this rivalry with a win on Sunday.
Apollo Crews vs. Sheamus
Nick: This is another match that we’re gonna be having in the pre-show. I will admit, though, that this was a tougher match for me to call on this card. Obviously, WWE wants to advertise the new TMNT movie because Sheamus had the part of Rocksteady in the film. This could mean this victory may go to Sheamus. On the other hand, Apollo Crews is having his first PPV match here. Again, Apollo is another guy with lots of potential. By hook or by crook, I think Apollo will pull out the win. It could be a clean victory, maybe Sheamus could even get himself disqualified. I don’t see this match being the end of this feud, so I think Apollo will get the win, but it won’t necessarily be a happy one.
Andrew: I’m excited for this match, I understand it will probably be on the PreShow, but still, two great and entertaining wrestlers are feuding and will be able to put on a great match. In the end, I have Apollo coming out on top because they’re trying to solidify him as a lower midcard threat, and beating a former world heavyweight champion is a great way to go about making him that kind of threat.
Rusev (c) vs. Titus O’Neil: United States Championship
Nick: I know it’s gonna be Father’s Day. I know it would be a big win if Titus O’Neil goes over Rusev. I don’t think it’s gonna happen, though. Vince hasn’t forgotten about the suspension, so I don’t think he’ll let Titus come back and immediately take the title.
Andrew: Another match that should be good, Rusev is a dominant force and has been destroying competition as of late. Titus, despite just coming off of suspension is back and is already getting a title shot. I had a theory that Titus would win leading to a feud with Darren Young and his silly Life Coach, two former partners, feuding when they’re both semi-relevant. But the chances of this are low, so I will go with Rusev.
The New Day (c) vs. Gallows and Anderson vs. Enzo and Cass vs. The Vaudevillains: Tag Team Championships
Nick: Listen, okay? I know what I said. I know I said in my Brand Split Predictions (check those out, by the way). I know I said that Enzo and Cass would be tag champs before the brand split, which is still totally possible! Now that The Club is in the title picture, I’m not sure if they’ll win this match. If Gallows and Anderson win here, it means they’ll have taken the titles off of New Day. They’ve already got a bit of a rivalry going as it is. If they were to take the championships, it would only continue this feud. It also leaves people wondering how their victory will impact the Cena/Styles match. Regardless, it could go to any three out of these four teams, except you know, not the Vaudevillains. With that said, I’m putting my bet on Gallows and Anderson.
Andrew: This match should be good as well, a fatal 4 way tag match is something we don’t see often, and these four teams should be able to put on an amazing match. I think they will have The New Day come out on top, but they will be pinning the Vaudevillains, as opposed to Enzo and Cass or The Club, because in my opinion, those two teams have a brighter future than the Vaudevillains.
John Cena vs. AJ Styles
Nick: This is going to be a fantastic match. This is truly a dream match that has been brewing for many years. Many of us wondered what would happen if Mr. WWE wrestled Mr. TNA and who would win. The popular vote seems to be with AJ Styles, and history would back up the point that every big star gets one victory over John Cena. However, it is extremely difficult to bet against a guy that hardly loses. With all of the hype that has come with this match, it’s difficult not to bet on Cena winning this for me. This match has been made to look like the ultimate face-off, and John Cena usually comes through in these kinds of big match situations. Besides, after two straight losses to Roman Reigns, would it make Cena look weak to have AJ immediately beat him on his own? I think yes. Plus, Cena will be wrestling for the first time since his return, which is an even bigger reason for him to win. Maybe in their next match, AJ will pull it off. For now, I’m going with Cena.
Andrew: This one is tough to call because Big Match John has just returned and they’re putting him immediately into a feud with a man who they haven’t been booking as they should. But, as they are making The Club look strong, it really is just right for them to make AJ win alone, it makes him look strong, and if The Club win the tag titles, the whole team will look dominant.
Charlotte and Dana Brooke vs. Natalya and Becky Lynch
Nick: Obviously, this isn’t going to be a one-on-one match for the Women’s Championship. With this opportunity, I think the win will go to Natalya and Becky Lynch. We’ve seen a bit of controversy between Brooke and charlotte lately, which works in their opponents’ favor. Maybe we’ll even see a Sasha Banks return..?
Andrew: My pick is Charlotte and Dana, I don’t understand why this match isn’t a title match. But i still think that they can’t make a champion look weak, so maybe Charlotte and Dana will win, but it only furthers the relationship with Charlotte and Dana and makes their relationship more tense.
Money In The Bank Ladder Match
Nick: For this match, we have Cesaro, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, Alberto Del Rio, Chris Jericho, and Dean Ambrose. Let’s go through a process of elimination, shall we? We can count Del Rio out because I don’t think anyone would want to see him win. We can count out Chris Jericho because he certainly doesn’t need the briefcase. Kevin Owens and Dean Ambrose are the two biggest fan favorites to win, but do they really need the MITB briefcase? Can they really not get title opportunities without it? One of the biggest things to consider is who would really need the briefcase to get a title shot in the near future. For me, this leaves Sami Zayn and Cesaro. Many of you know that Vince doesn’t see much star quality in Cesaro and criticizes him for not having enough charisma. Sami Zayn, on the other hand, is also a fan favorite that would do very well as Mr. Money In The Bank. If they really don’t want him cashing in and winning or they want to give it to someone like Kevin Owens, I’m thinking that they could always pull something like they did with Edge and Mr. Kennedy in the past.
Andrew: There are so many worthy competitors in this match, but first of all, let’s rule out the two who will definitely not win. Chris Jericho and Alberto Del Rio, as much as I enjoy them both as wrestlers and characters, are simply not going to win the math. Chris Jericho has no momentum going into this match, he only got in to give Ambrose some meaning. Alberto Del Rio is coming off a bit of momentum as he broke away from the League of Nations, but hasn’t been doing anything big since. Next we get to Cesaro, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens and Dean Ambrose. Three of these men are coming off pay per view losses, specifically Cesaro and Sami Zayn who are coming off two straight, Kevin Owens coming off of one loss, then we have Dean, who is on a two pay per view winning streak. As much as the evidence, including the win streak and the possibility of him cashing in that night on Roman or Seth, I still don’t think he is going to win it. For some odd reason, despite all of this evidence, I still stand with Kevin Owens. He would be one of the most entertaining Mr. Money In The Bank’s of all time. So, I choose Kevin Owens.
Roman Reigns (c) vs. Seth Rollins: WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Nick: I’m going with a definite win for Reigns. I see him holding the championship until at least Summerslam. From there, they could even have a Wrestlemania 31 rematch between him and Brock Lesnar if they wanted to. Better yet, it could be the same triple threat match it turned out to be. I’d be happy to see Rollins win the title back, but it doesn’t look likely.
Andrew: Roman is their golden boy, they’re trying to make him look strong as possible while trying to make fans like him in the process. Seth has recently returned and has been dominating Reigns ever since that Pedigree, specifically on the mic. Despite the fact that they are trying to make Roman look very strong, I see Seth coming out on top leading to The Shield triple threat at SummerSlam. I choose Seth.
