This year’s Payback PPV will be this Sunday, May 1st. It’s the first PPV after Wrestlemania, so this may be the show that starts to pave the way for next year’s Wrestlemania. Some of these matches seem pretty easy to call, while others are a bit more difficult. So, without further ado, I present to you, the Payback 2016 Predictions!

Payback Kickoff: Kalisto (c) vs. Ryback – United States Championship

This was also the kickoff championship match for Wrestlemania. I’m gonna hope that this time, everybody’s in the building. This is basically a repeat of the match that almost no one in attendance at Wrestlemania got to see. So, I’m guessing that we’ll get a slightly different version of the exact same match. Now, Kalisto can retain the title in front of a fully packed arena.

Winner: Kalisto

Enzo and Cass vs. The Vaudevillains To Determine The #1 Contender for the WWE Tag Team Championships

Enzo and Cass are obviously fan favorites. After less than a month on the main roster, they’ve already gotten themselves into the finals of the Tag Team Contenders Tournament. However, the same can be said for the Vaudevillains. I’d just like to know; why couldn’t they have had the tag titles be defended on the show? Couldn’t they have just had the finals of the tournament this past Monday on Raw? Are they gonna swerve us and have the championship match at Payback anyway? For now, we just have to assume that the only tag team match on the card is this one. My guess is that the championship match will be the next night on Raw. I mean, come on. Are they really gonna make us wait until Extreme Rules for the title match? I’m predicting a win for Enzo and Cass here. Then, maybe the next night, they’ll beat the New Day and it’ll be a big feel-good moment for everyone.

Winners: Enzo and Cass

Baron Corbin vs. Dolph Ziggler

Baron Corbin is a fresh face on the main roster after dominating in NXT. He won the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at Wrestlemania, so it’s obvious that there are big plans for him. I see a big win over Dolph Ziggler.

Winner: Baron Corbin

Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens

This rivalry goes back many years across many different shows and promotions. These two are known for their incredible matches in Ring of Honor, and it even carried over into NXT. They’ve documented and replayed their feud in WWE many times leading up to this match, especially NXT. We know that Sami Zayn never got the upper hand over Owens in NXT. It wasn’t until this year’s Royal Rumble when Zayn eliminated Owens, getting himself a little retribution. These two are able to put on phenomenal matches together, and they have a long history with each other. Hopefully, this will turn into a major feud in WWE for many more months to come. I have a feeling it won’t stop here. That being said, I’m predicting a win for Kevin Owens. Zayn won’t get his big decisive victory until we get further down the road. Zayn will probably have the last laugh, but for now, Owens needs to win.

Winner: Kevin Owens

Chris Jericho vs. Dean Ambrose

This match should be a great one as well. I’ve said this before, along with many others, but Jericho is at a point in his career where putting younger talent over when necessary wouldn’t be too damaging to his reputation. Following the victory over AJ Styles at Wrestlemania, Jericho is due for a clean loss to a young star. That young star will probably be Dean Ambrose.

Winner: Dean Ambrose

Charlotte (c) w/ Ric Flair vs. Natalya w/ Bret Hart – Women’s Championship

We haven’t seen Bret Hart a single time throughout this whole feud. So, we don’t know how big of a role he’s gonna play in this match. If we can be sure of one thing though, we know that Ric Flair will definitely get involved, whether Bret Hart is at ringside or not. Natalya has gotten Charlotte to tap to the sharpshooter twice in this past month. If that’s an indication of anything, it’s that Charlotte will probably look strong in this situation. She’s not ready to drop the title just yet.

Winner: Charlotte

The Miz (c) vs. Cesaro – Intercontinental Championship

I would really like for Cesaro to be champion. Like, REALLY. I’ll be honest though, I don’t think it’s going to happen. The Miz has been revitalized, so to speak. He’s got Maryse by his side and he’s starting to be taken a lot more seriously. So, since they brought back Maryse, I have to believe it was done for a reason. She makes Miz look so much better, so he probably won’t drop the title the first time he defends it on PPV.

Winner: The Miz

Vince McMahon Decides Who Will Run Raw

Why is this even happening? Undertaker beat Shane, didn’t he? How did Shane run Raw for this long? Why did he even get to run it at all? There are so many questions surrounding this that WWE will never answer. It’s like Wrestlemania never even happened. With that being said, I have to expect that Shane will get Raw anyway. If he wasn’t, this would never be an issue. They could just say, “Hey, Shane, you lost. You should’ve been gone weeks ago. See ya ’round, kid. Where’s my lock box?” But, they didn’t. They could’ve given him the boot by now. So, I’m expecting Shane to get Raw. Now, I’ve heard lots of talk about a brand split when people talk about this part of Payback. I’ve heard from many people who think that Shane will get Raw, and Stephanie will get Smackdown. Good thinking, but we’re not talking about Smackdown here. We’re not even really talking about WWE as a whole. We’re only concerned with Raw. If that’s the case, I’m gonna guess Shane gets Monday Night Raw.

Winner?: Shane McMahon

Roman Reigns (c) vs. AJ Styles – WWE World Heavyweight Championship

As much as most people, myself included, want AJ Styles to win here, I think we have an obvious winner. Roman Reigns has held the title three times, and not one title run has been legitimized. This is the championship reign that will finally be a decent one for Roman Reigns. AJ Styles is in this match for the sole purpose of making Roman look strong. Will Gallows and Anderson have anything to do with this match? Who knows? But no matter which way an interference goes, Roman will still win this match.

Winner: Roman Reigns
